BB Team speaks to BES Kids

Burlington Elementary was thrilled to welcome the Lady Cougars Basketball Team to our spring assembly, themed "Compete at State."

We took time to celebrate three great things happening in our schools:

  • We recognized our students’ amazing effort at Monday night’s concert—what a performance!

  • BES improved from a yellow to a green rating on state tests last year, with no red rankings—a huge achievement!

  • Burlington Middle School ranked 8th in the state for academic growth last year on CMAS—way to go, BMS!

During the assembly, the Lady Cougars inspired our 3rd and 4th-grade students by sharing encouraging test-taking tips and character-building advice to help them face challenges—like the upcoming state assessments on April 11, 14, and 15—with confidence and resilience.

Their advice included:

  • Always give your best effort

  • Remember it’s okay not to know every answer.

  • Keep working hard—you’ve already done the hard work of learning.

  • Enjoy the moment—now comes the fun part: competing!

  • If you feel nervous, take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

Whether in the classroom or on the court, we value the dedication it takes to grow, improve, and rise to the challenge. Hosting the Lady Cougars was a meaningful way to honor their recent success and show our students that the same mindset that leads to victories in sports can also lead to success in academics.
